Boshell Foundation Lecture: What’s Old Is New Again—Reimagining Galleries of Greek and Roman Art

The George D. and Margo Behrakis Wing Museum at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has recently undergone an ambitious and exciting transformation that includes a grand entrance to the museum’s outstanding collection of Greek and Roman art and a new home for the collection of Byzantine art.

Two of the project’s leaders—Phoebe Segal, Mary Bryce Comstock Curator of Greek and Roman Art, and Laure Marest, Cornelius and Emily Vermeule Associate Curator of Greek and Roman Art—share insights into the project. They also discuss how a combination of the most recent scholarship and the latest technology has led to exciting discoveries about the collection and the original social context and appearance of ancient artworks.

The discussion was moderated by the Art Institute’s Jeffrey Nigro, research associate in the Arts of the Ancient Mediterranean and Byzantium.
