The disguised “Prince of Diamonds,” Simon Leviev, exploited the dating app Tinder to lure women into his life, while he pretended to be the son of an Israeli diamond billionaire. With each fresh “threat” to his life, he had them financially rescue him from his grave foes, sinking his claws deeper into the women’s personal wealth. But none of them had any clue that they were being drawn into the black hole of scam!
Welcome back to Binge Watch and today we will be unwrapping the story of one of the most controversial scams, The Tinder Swindler, billionaire boyfriend turns nightmare!
Diamond Prince, Simon Leviev’s amazing ability to deceive others into believing he was someone he wasn’t was the key to his scam’s success. The ladies he linked with on Tinder were drawn to his seeming life of wealth, no matter how fishy it was. Needless to say, they instantly swiped right on his profile.
If his Tinder profile piqued their interest, the overpriced dates he set them up on had them completely smitten. Their new lover made it a point to treat them to fun nights out, private jet dinners, and luxury vehicle excursions!
Leviev told his victims that he was the son of well-known Israeli billionaire Lev Avernovich Leviev, which explained his enormous riches. Because of his portfolio of diamond mining investments, the real Leviev was dubbed “King of Diamonds.”
The Tinder Swindler took advantage of the opportunity to introduce himself as the “Prince of Diamonds,” lying to his dates about how he made huge money as a diamond dealer. His portrayal of himself as a “wealthy guy with rich parents” was a total fabrication.
His real name wasn’t even “Simon Leviev.” He was “Shimon Hayut,” an Israeli fugitive on the run for years. Hayut suffered unrelated theft, forgery, and fraud crimes before he even dubbed himself the Prince of Diamonds, laying the groundwork for his Tinder Swindling to come. He managed to flee Israel before being condemned and ending up in Finland.
It wasn’t long until he was in hot water again, this time for scamming three more people, and the Finnish police were soon hot on his trail. He was sentenced to two years in prison, but was released in 2017 and deported to Israel.
He, on the other hand, has once again abandoned the nation!
He changed his name to Simon Leviev and began traveling over Europe, attempting to con people with his made-up past and supposedly limitless income. In actuality, he just cared about his victims’ money, and he conned them into giving it to him using the web of lies he’d concocted.
Cecilie Fjellhy, a young Norwegian woman, was one of the innocent people caught up in Leviev’s nefarious scheme. She met Leviev on Tinder one night, and she quickly became enamored with his seductive lifestyle.
Leviev invited his date to travel with him to Bulgaria during their initial face-to-face meeting. He explained that he was attending a business meeting for LLD Diamonds. Even though Cecilie had only just met the guy, she consented to accompany him on this unexpected journey.
Leviev possessed an intoxicating magnetism, according to Cecilie, which made it difficult for her to refuse his bizarre requests.
On their way to Bulgaria, his bodyguard, business partner, and personal secretary boarded his private plane. Cecilie stated that she found this to be really reassuring. His ability to assemble a team of people ready to act at his command further added to his credibility and trustworthiness in her eyes.
Leviev flew back to London a week after their initial meeting. Cecilie was convinced she’d discovered “the one.” Her new lover seemed to always have time for her, which gave her peace of mind. Cecilie was falling in love, and she honestly believed Leviev felt the same way.
He informed her, however, that some of his diamond industry competitors had begun making murder threats against him, around a month into their relationship. He claimed he didn’t feel secure coming to London to visit her because of the threats.
