St. Lucia dropped from 91 to 93 in the World Bank’s annual Ease of Doing Business rankings.
Difficulties in opening bank accounts and getting planning approval were among several reasons cited for the drop.
The Island is ranked 93 among 190 economies.
According to the 2019 report, St. Lucia is ranked 93 among 190 economies in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business report.
Senior Communications Officer to the Prime Minster Miss Nicole Mc Donald says government has work to do to improve the island’s Ease of Doing Business ranking and has been working towards that goal.
In 2017, the island dropped in the global rankings from 78 to 86, out of 190 countries.
According to the 2017report, Saint Lucia dropped in all categories, including the “Getting Electricity” “Getting Credit” and “Registering Property” categories
St. Lucia is ranked number 9 in Latin America and the Caribbean.
An economy’s ease of doing business score is reflected on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 represents the lowest and 100 represents the best performance. The ease of doing business ranking ranges from 1 to 190.
