Citizenship and civil society | Soti Triantafyllou | TEDxAthens

What does a “native” mean? Who is a “citizen” and who is a “subject””? Why the process of acquiring a citizenship is called “naturalization”?
Can we define the nebulous and furtive “national identity”? This is a short lecture on words with multiple significance and ambiguous undercurrents.
Greek historian and author Soti Triantafyllou addresses the question of open society: open to what degree? Open to whom? Open how and under what circumstances?
Can we have open borders? That would be nice, but no, we can’t. Soti Triantafyllou explains why the respect of borders is a component of the reciprocality principle, a fundamental condition of pluralism and peace.
