Join Professor Jennifer West and Roski Alum Eli Joteva (BA ’13) as they discuss Eli’s trajectory out of school and her current practice.
Eli Joteva is a Bulgarian intermedia artist based in Los Angeles. With a practice rooted in photography and digital media, her work traces the translations between material and virtual planes in an effort to re-imagine the experiences of both human and other-than-human bodies. Influenced by contemporary research in the fields of quantum mechanics, neurophysics and machine vision, she investigates organic and computational memory systems in relationship to imaging technologies of the past and future.
Joteva holds an MFA from UCLA Design | Media Arts, a BA in Fine Arts from USC Roski and completed The New Normal postgraduate research program at Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design. She has exhibited internationally in venues like Ars Electronica, Fischer Museum, SciArt Initiative, DC I/O, Culture Hub LA, xCoax, DA Fest, Sariev Contemporary, and Queensland Center for Photography. She has been a resident artist at Vermont Studio Center, ACRE, Photo+Sphere and an active member of UCLA Art Sci Center | Lab since 2016. She is currently artist in residence at STEAM Imaging III with Ars Electronica & Fraunhofer MEVIS, lecturer at houdini.school, VR curator at SUPERCOLLIDER and cofounder of current.cam.
