Path to citizenship without actually having to live in Portugal is extremely appealing to many people! Not many places offer this.
\nHow can this be done? Via golden visa route. You buy property, you get permanent residency, and there are no obligations to live in Portugal. After 5 years you apply for citizenship and that\u2019s it. <\/p>\n
However, in 2021 and the beginning of 2022 Portugal changed some rules. This changed the big picture, when it comes to investing in this country. <\/p>\n
So what changed and what should you do now?<\/p>\n
First of all, they removed all the most desirable options from the Golden Visa investment options – Porto, Lisbon and pretty much all the coastal region.
\nThis means that you can purchase property in the interior of Portugal, and areas like Madeira. <\/p>\n
Fund option is still available, however they increased the amount from 350 000 our to 500 000 euros.<\/p>\n
You can do a donation and a bond option but in my opinion those don\u2019t really make any sense. <\/p>\n
If you still want to invest in Porto and Lisbon you can purchase commercial real estate. <\/p>\n
However, there is an option that may be quite smart for some people.
\nThis interesting option is shared real estate. This is the lowest entry point. You can put 280 000 euros and you\u2019re good to go. This option won\u2019t give you any yield on your investment. This is usually a hotel development, such as Hilton.
\nI\u2019m definitely more positive about this option than I was last year. <\/p>\n
