Indeed, in 1965, the United Nations General Assembly called for negotiations between the two countries over the issue, which is viewed as an issue of decolonisation. However, after 15 years of talks, in 1982, the Military Government in Argentina tried to retake the Islands, known to the Argentinians as the Malvinas, by force. Although this fails, the issue remains a source of tension. While Argentine sees it as a matter of territorial integrity, Britain views it as an issue of self-determination. As long as the Falkland Islanders see themselves as British, or want to be ruled by Britain, then they have the right to have their wishes respected. But is there an alternative to the binary sovereignty problem. Could shared sovereignty – a condominium – offer an alternative route.

CHAPTERS
0:00 Introduction and Titles
0:31 The Falklands Dispute in International Relations
1:31 Background to the Falklands Islands-Malvinas
2:10 The Origins of the Falklands-Malvinas Dispute?
3:43 The 1982 Falklands War
5:45 Britain and Argentina after the Falklands War
7:42 Can a Falklands Settlement be Found?
9:28 Is Falklands Joint Sovereignty an Option?
11:49 Can the Falklands Dispute be Solved?

RELATED PLAYLISTS
Current Issues and Disputes
International Relations, Conflict and Security in the Americas and Caribbean

RELATED VIDEOS
How the Falklands War Changed Argentina (BBC)
Why the Falklands Conflict Happened (Imperial War Museum)

===============
FURTHER READING & USEFUL SOURCES

Falkland Islands Government
Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
Argentinian Foreign Ministry
UN Security Council Resolution Resolution 502
UN General Assembly Resolution 2065 (1965)

===============
MY BOOKS

Secession and State Creation: What Everyone Needs to Know [PRE-ORDER]
The Cyprus Problem: What Everyone Needs to Know
Kosovo: The Path to Contested Statehood in the Balkans
The Foreign Policy of Counter-Secession
My other books

===============
MY PROFILES & SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS

Twitter
LinkedIn
Academia.edu
Research Gate

===============
EQUIPMENT& TOOL USED TO MAKE THIS VIDEO

Camera: Canon XA40
Microphone: Røde VideoMic NTG
Key Light: Elgato
Accent Lights: Aputure MC
Teleprompter: Parrot 2
Tripod: Geekoto 79″ Carbon Fibre
Channel Analytics: TubeBuddy
Channel Graphics:

===============
KEYWORDS

#Falklands #Britain #Argentina
#InternationalPolitics #CurrentAffairs #InternationalRelations
#Malvinas #Statehood #Independence #UnitedKingdom
#InternationalLaw #InternationalHistory

DISCLAIMER: Some of the links above are affiliate links.
