For many years, citizens of the UK, the US, and other countries have had a strong interest in Portuguese real estate, and for good reason. Two major drivers for investors are a hospitable environment and a potential pathway to citizenship in Europe.
Demand, however, vastly outstripped supply between 2020 and 2022, which resulted in a sharp rise in the cost of Portuguese real estate. In fact, since then, the price per square meter for properties in Portugal, mainly in major cities like Lisbon and Porto, have risen to their greatest level in thirty years.
