A spectacular sunrise and beautiful calm conditions greet me as I drive out to the Karikari peninsular for a morning spearfishing – it is a welcome sight after a few weeks of lots of wind and rough seas. The kayak is on the trailer behind me and as I pull up at the beach my excitement levels are high!
After a short pedal up the coast, I’m slipping into the water and after only 10 mins I shoot a nice kingfish – I’m on the board! Using the kingfish guts and gills as a burly I manage to spook a nice snapper feeding on it before snooping and shooting a big snapper over the very first ledge in the second spot.
With two very good fish in the back I decide that a crayfish would finish the dive off nicely and after looking around for a while find one tucked up in a very dark hole. A quick grab secures it and I have my crayfish!
Back at home I find that my passport has come back and it has the visa that I need to enter the USA!
I also fillet up my fish and smoke them, and give you guys a tour of my veggie garden…
Cheers,
Kerry Flowers Kayak Fisherman!
