The Nevis to St Kitts Cross Channel swim will take place on March 26th 2023. It will be 21 years that they have been having this event. During the Cross Channel swim you swim from Nevis to St.Kitts across the narrows. The swim is 2.5 miles approximately 4.1 kilometres. What is interesting about this open water swim is that you can see the bottom the entire time and some people see turtles when swimming across. The event is recognized world-wide as one of the Must Do Open water swimming events.
Every year there are well over hundred participants. Last year people came from New Zealand, Hawaii, St.Maarten, Canada the US, Europe and elsewhere. The record for the event is just under one hour. There are different age categories and there is also the category ‘assisted swimmer’ meaning you can have a kayak with you and use fins and have assistance throughout the race. There is a spectator boat and a boat that transports athletes and their belongings between the two islands.
Participants have been as young as under 10 and over 80. Some people with disabilities and special olympics athletes have participated in the event.
Participants get t-shirts and other goodies and there is a breakfast/lunch celebration and award ceremony afterwards.
St.Kitts & Nevis has a gifting goggle initiative whereby people can donate their goggles and swimming equipment that can help other people in the community.
Having participated in various open water swimming competitions I can 100% say that this is a must do event. How many swimming events do you know where you can swim from one island to the next!!!!
