The Portugal lawyers will tell you it is a five-year clock.
Among Golden visa investors, the estimation is at least 8 years.
Most likely, it will take ten years or more, if you can ever make it.
The Portugal government simply has no credibility.
From January to May of 2022, the Portugal government stopped processing Golden Visa applications without giving any reason.

It happened before in 2014-2016, in 2020-2021.

In June 24, 2022, the government suddenly started processing the golden visa again. Again no explanation.

The government claimed to solve the backlog in a chronical way.

But only recent applications moved on.

Those who waited for 2 or 3 years for biometric appointments are still waiting.

Without such an appointment, these investors cannot even start the five-year citizen clock.

It is clearly not chronical.

It is ridiculous because the government can easily help those who have waited for two or three years.

There is a long wait in each stage. There are at least five major stages. And we only talked about the first stage.

New requirements often prop up. Some citizenship applications were rejected in the last stage, at the end of a decade-long journey.
