YOU CAN STILL APPLY FOR YOUR SPANISH SEPHARDI CITIZENSHIP IN 2022, CHEER UP!!
As you know well, Spain (which had already had a permanent Law since 1924) opened a special procedure in 2015 to be able to directly obtain Spanish nationality (citizenship) by Sephardic origin, proving that you (through your surnames and genealogy) descend from the Sephardic Jews who lived in Spain (Sefarad), for almost 2,000 years, until 1492, when the Catholic Monarchs unjustly expelled the Jews.
Half of the 700,000 Jews who lived in Spain at that time (almost 15% of the population, being the most dynamic and enterprising group in our society), kept their religion and emigrated to North and Central Europe, America, North Africa , Balkans and Turkey.
The other half converted to Catholicism, and changed their surnames from Levy, Cohen, Aboulafia, Benchamel, etc, to: García, Rodríguez, Fernández, Ávila, Tarazona, Gómez, Pérez, Suárez, and many others.
If you descend from them, you have the right to obtain Spanish Citizenship now.
Much better than Portugal, whose process has practically finished in 2022 and where only Brazilians and people who speak Portuguese or have properties or companies there previously, will be able to apply (1% of those who applied until now), and where they can revoke many granted nationalities.
The Sephardic Spanish Citizenship is compatible since 2015 with all of Latin America (it was also before) and also with all the rest of the world, simultaneously, so you can request it even if you have another in process or recently granted.
