Is Podgorica worth visiting? The general consensus seems to be no, so I went anyway! This is my experience in Montenegro’s capital – one of the least visited citys in Europe.

My objective was to find out what there is to do in Podgorica and what the most interesting places to visit are in the city. This is the grand finale to my week long Montenegro road trip and I was determined to make it a memorable one!

Although I arrived in Podgorica Montenegro late in the afternoon I was still determined to see as much as I could – including both the new and old parts of the city, the recently finished Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and the landmark fountains in Independence Square.

As I walked around I realised the city has much more to offer than it gets credit for and I wondered if it gets overlooked because there are so many other incredible places to visit in Montenegro. After strolling across another new addition to the city skyline – the Millennium Bridge, I headed into the old town with the hope of seeing some historic mosques and an old clock tower built by the Ottomans in the 17th century. It was great to be able to walk around at my own pace and do a little bit of sightseeing instead of joining an organised walking tour of Podgorica.

My road trip through Montenegro was amazing and I enjoyed every moment of it! The mountain trails, fortified cities, natural wonders, beach resorts, historical fortresses, hilltop towns, great lakes, national parks and those narrow, winding roads were all part of an experience I’ll never forget.
