TECHSPRESSIONIST SALON #53:
PHOTOGRAPHY AND MEDIA CONFLUENCE
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 5:30-7 PM EDT
Moderators: Tommy Mintz and Renata Janiszewska
Delaroche famously declared panting dead after photography’s invention. Photography become the locus of visual imagination.
”Photography re-understood what we have the right to observe, and unlike all other media, has the grandiose ambition to catalog the entire world.”
Susan Sontag, 1972 (Paraphrased)
That was about photographers working in separate darkrooms. Now photographers work with computers that are interconnected through digital media.
As artists using photographic images in a digital practice, what does the interconnection between photography and digital media create for artists to consider your working space?
As lens based artists, when we work on a computer, “where” are we working as artists in this moment – when photography is inter-permeating the tools we use to create art?
How does the navigation of the always on computational space and potential for continuous engagement and entanglement of the tool at hand impact your practice as an artist ?
What new forms arise in your work when considering how lens and digital media are a visual-digital language?
