More than 700,000 Indians stuck in a backlog for decades to obtain green cards may have grounds to cheer if President Joe Biden agrees to the proposal of processing all US green card applications within six months.
This recommendation to Biden was unanimously voted by the US presidential advisory commission by the proposal of Indian-American community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria.
Bhutoria made this proposal during a 25-member President’s Advisory Commission meeting on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders( PACAANHPI). The meeting was webcast live.
In September 2021, the employment-based green card backlog for skilled Indians had reached an astounding 719,000, with an anticipated wait time of 90 years, as per a recent study by the Washington think tank Cato Institute.
