Passport Series: Book vs Card

Deciding between a U.S. Passport Book vs. a Passport Card? Watch this video to learn what the differences are.

Transcript:
You might be wondering, what is the difference between a passport book and a passport card?

The biggest difference between the two is that a passport card is only valid to enter Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Caribbean countries and territories. Additionally, the passport card can only be used at land border crossings or sea ports-of-entry.

Aka: if you plan on driving to Canada or Mexico or you’re taking a cruise to aforementioned countries, you’ll be fine with a passport card. But for any international travel by plane, you must use a passport book, no matter what.

The total cost of a passport book is $145. This includes a $110 application fee and a $35 acceptance fee. The total cost of a passport card is $65, broken down into a $30 application fee and $35 acceptance fee. If you’d like both a passport book and card, the total cost is $175.

But for study abroad purposes, obtaining a passport book is your best option.
