The Paraninfo Hall of the University of Zaragoza hosted on December 10 the first one-
day conference, which, with the title Different perspectives of European citizenship,
was organized within the framework of the UNITA Alliance of Universities. This
Conference, which lasted throughout the day, took place both in person and online,
and was followed in total by nearly 200 people, mostly belonging to the six Universities
that make up the UNITA Alliance (University of Beira Interior, University of Pau and the
Adour Countries, University of Savoy Mont Blanc, University of Turin and University of
the West of Timisoara, in addition to the University of Zaragoza).
The objective of this Conference was to spread the meaning and content of European
citizenship among the various groups that are part of the university communities of
the six participating Universities as well as in society in general, emphasizing one of the
hallmarks of the Alliance UNITA, such as the approach that can be made to this
concept from peripheral, border, mountainous and Romance language territories, such
as those in which the six aforementioned Universities are located.
To this end, there was a group of speakers from all the UNITA territories and who
responded to diverse profiles, combining the vision from the Institutions of the
European Union, specifically the Commission and the European Parliament, with that
which has been held since academy. This circumstance offered a diversity of points of
view that enriched the debate on the concept of European citizenship, which was
further reinforced by the diversity of areas of specialization of the speakers that
included areas such as Law, Culture, Sociology or Political Science among others.
