Saint Kitts and Nevis or the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis (English: Saint Kitts and Nevis)
It is located in the Leeward Islands and is a federation of two islands in the West Indies. This country is the smallest sovereign state in the Americas both in terms of area and population.
The capital and seat of the federal government is Basseterre on the island of Saint Kitts. The smaller state of Nevis is about 2 miles (3 km) southeast of St. Kitts through a shallow channel called the Narrows or the Narrows.
Historically, the British dependency of Anguilla was also part of this federation, which was then known collectively as Saint Christopher, Anguilla and Nevis. Saint Kitts and Nevis is geographically part of the Leeward Islands. To the north and northwest are the islands of Saint Eustatius, Saba, Saint Barthelemy and Saint Martin. To the east and northeast are Antigua and Barbuda, and to the southeast are the small uninhabited island of Redonda and the island of Montserrat, where there is currently an active volcano.
Saint Kitts and Nevis were among the first islands in the Caribbean to be settled by Europeans. Saint
Kitts was also home to the first British and French colonies in the Caribbean
