In this latest Federal Trust video, the Trust’s Director discusses with Professor Richard Rose the impact of the war in Ukraine on the UK’s geopolitical standing. They conclude that the current British government will not be able to manage effectively the geopolitical challenges posed to post-Brexit Britain by the war in Ukraine.

Richard Rose is professor of public policy at the University of Strathclyde Glasgow and a visiting fellow at the European University Institute Florence and the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin. In his new book, “How Sick is British Democracy? A Clinical Analysis” (published by Palgrave Macmillan ( and also available here: he gives a mixed verdict: it is healthy in parts, but mentally unbalanced in promoting a global Britain through a domestic foreign policy. The shock of a hung Parliament with the Scottish National Party holding the balance would remind Westminster it cannot ignore powers beyond it.
