In four meetings Fr Bill Burton, O.F.M will lead us to review a biography of Paul and the techniques of ancient letter writing that Paul uses in his letters. We will then examine seven of Paul’s letters that scholars accept as genuinely written by Paul. These are: Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, 1 Thessalonians and Philemon.
His letter to the important churches in Rome will be the first we consider because it is pre-eminent among his letters. This is the most “theological” of Paul’s letters. This is the only letter Paul wrote to a Christian community that he did not establish and in it Paul tries to explain to the Roman Christians the gospel he preaches and his understanding of life in Christ.
