The nationality law was regulated, which will allow many foreign citizens who have a child who is Portuguese by origin, to be able to submit their application for Portuguese nationality.

❇️ Who will essentially be the people most benefited from this regulation?
➡️ Those who have had a long time to file their expression of interest and who only recently have their residence permit.

Ⓜ️ Previously your legal stay towards nationality only counts from your 1st resident card date, Now according to new legislation which was published in official site “directive DL n 26/2022, de 18 de marco” your time frame will count from the day of your entry towards nationality if you have a Portuguese child.

Example : Previously a citizen who entered Portugal in 2017 and during legalization process if he received his resident on 2022, Than his legal stay towards nationality counts from 2022 only.
However, according to new law what will happen is that this citizen from 2017 to 2022 lived in Portugal for 5 years is counted towards nationality process.
