Tacloban, officially the City of Tacloban, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines. The city is autonomous from the province of Leyte, although it serves as its provincial capital.
It has the longest bridge in the Philippines connecting between Samar and Leyte called San Juanico Bridge.
The San Juanico Bridge is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway and stretches from Samar to Leyte across the San Juanico Strait in the Philippines. Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design.
Tacloban is the largest city and distributing centre in the eastern Visayan Islands (Leyte and Samar) group. A port since 1874, it has a long deepwater wharf, a bulk petroleum depot, and an airport. Hemp, copra, and lumber are exported, and commercial fishing is important.
Tacloban enjoys a stunning view of the Cancabato Bay that, even during overcast, doesn’t disappoint. The water surrounding Tacloban’s stillness and serenity is so peaceful that it almost seems unreal. You can also walk the San Juanico bridge connecting Leyte and Samar, which is so cool to experience!
