The Spanish National Police has detained 79 persons in connection with a plan that allowed tens of Moroccan infants born in Melilla, an independent city on the border with Morocco, to acquire Spanish nationality.
The arrest was confirmed by Spain’s Interior Ministry, which said that the detained individuals received between €1,500 and €3,000 every child delivered to Moroccan women at Melilla’s Regional Hospital.
