CERTIFICATES FROM JEWISH COMUNITIES FOR SEPHARDIC SPANISH CITIZENSHIP LAW
The first point in the Spanish Sephardic Citizenship process is to prove your Sephardic origin.
First, you need a genealogical or name report.(if possible, made by a profesional expert)
With these document and other proofs from your family history such as civil birth, death, and marriage certificates, property ownership, wills, census records, immigration records, as well as church and synagogue records, you have to contact a Jewish Comunity and to ask for a Certificate of your Sephardic Origin.
The best one and main one is the one made by the Federación de Comunidades Judías de España (FCJE), as is the oficial representation of the Jews in Spain, following the Law of 1992, with the deal between Spain and the Jewish Community. We advise to apply always for it and we do with all our clients.
But in the same time, the Law permits to apply for Citizenship also using a Certificate made by certain other oficial Jewish Comunity, registered like this (in USA, OrVeShalom, or Jewish Federation of New Mexico, JFNM…), adding some other documents from them.
It is possible to proof the Sephardic origin only using one of the 2 options? The answer is YES
We using both for all our clients, especially the ones from USA and Latin America
It is possible to start the process using for example JFNM or OrVeShalom or other and after, adding to it the FCJE? YES
We encourage all of you with this process.
Kind regards.
