Princess Friederike Amalia Wilhelmine Viktoria of Prussia was the second daughter of Frederick III, German Emperor and his wife Victoria, Princess Royal, eldest daughter of Queen Victoria.
Viktoria fell in love with Alexander of Battenberg, the Prince of Bulgaria, after her mother played matchmaker, but there was great opposition to the match and the couple never married.
Viktoria suffered from disordered eating and fell into a great depression. She was unlucky in her search for a suitable husband but her brother
arranged her marriage to Prince Adolf of Schaumburg-Lippe who was away at war for the majority of their marriage. Adolf died during the First World War, leaving her childless and widowed.
In 1927, she caused a royal scandal by marrying an ordinary man who was 35 years her junior. She had to give up her palace, titles, and wealth. She then died at the age of 63 without resolution with her family, thus dying alone.
