#100+ Organizations recommend including immigration priorities in Build Back Better Act
“As negotiations for a full fiscal year 2022 spending bill move forward, we urge you to prioritize “critical immigration issues” that are necessary to improve the immigration system and help millions of people harmed by serious deficiencies in the system”, reads a letter addressed to the legislators who head the House of Representatives, the Senate and the committees in charge of the debates of the initiative.
The group said that the so-called Social Spending Act (Build Back Better -BBB-), can provide a “transformative change” by including immigration priorities in general allocations and “making them a” priority.
Although the debate on the social spending law remains stalled in the Senate due to disagreements in the Democratic caucus, the coalition does not lose hope that the talks will advance and a favorable vote will be achieved shortly.
To approve the BBB, the Democrats reached for the ‘reconciliation package’ due to the rejection of the Republican caucus. This legislative tool allows the approval of laws with a simple majority (51 votes).
