Employment is one way of acquiring a green card, or lawful permanent resident status, in the United States.

This involves two main steps to getting an employment-based green card. The first is getting a visa. Employment-based visas are known as “EB” visas, and there are three kinds: EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3. Most employment-based visas require an employer to begin the process on your behalf. Once you’ve got a visa, the second step is to apply to “adjust” your status to lawful permanent resident.

There’s a lot of different categories with different eligibility rules, and the process will vary depending on when you arrive in the United States. Read more about employment-based green cards by accessing the article above, where you’ll find detailed information about fees and filings.
