If no future EU relationship treaty is agreed, Gibraltar will require cross-frontier workers to comply with equivalent requirements to those imposed on Gibraltar residents crossing into Spain and Schengen: that is to say, a reciprocal frontier regime.
This has been highlighted in a new booklet published today by the Government, which advises citizens on how to prepare for a No Negotiated Outcome.
It also says frontier workers who live in Spain and work in Gibraltar are encouraged to discuss any anticipated delays with their employers, to mitigate the effect of these: for example, by structuring shifts to avoid peak crossing times.
The booklet says negotiations have taken place in a constructive and cooperative atmosphere – but adds that while progress has been made, discussions need to resume in order to attempt to resolve the complex issues which remain outstanding.
