Malta’s new citizenship by investment regulations, officially named the “Granting of Citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations”, was launched in 2020 to replace the successful Individual Investor IIP Program.

Many investors choose Malta citizenship to provide a better quality of life for their families, to live, work, or retire in a warm sunny climate, to provide their children with an excellent education, travel to over 180 countries without the need for visas, or for economic and financial reasons, such as accessing the European market.

The main applicant and their dependents are required to make a non-refundable Exceptional Direct Investment to the Malta government, and we will discuss the exact amounts in part 2 of this video series.

Application processing for residency, which is the first stage, takes about 2-3 weeks. Once residency is granted, the applicant can select either 12 months before applying for citizenship, or 36 months before applying for citizenship.

The total number of citizenship certificates to be granted is limited to only 400 per year.
