Η Στέγη προσκάλεσε δύο Αφροελληνίδες, την Τζάκυ Αμπουλιμέν και την Ειρήνη Νιαμουάια Οντούλ, που προέρχονται από τον χώρο της νομικής εκπροσώπησης και του ακτιβισμού, να επιμεληθούν και να συντονίσουν μια δική τους συζήτηση, μαζί με μια ομάδα νέων ανθρώπων που ζουν στην Αθήνα, για το τι σημαίνει anti-blackness στην Ελλάδα και για το πώς βιώνεται ο ρατσισμός από τους ίδιους. Η καθημερινή εμπειρία των ανθρώπων αφρικανικής καταγωγής ανά τον κόσμο –the Black Experience– βρίθει από προβολές και κοινωνικά στερεότυπα που συχνά δεν αφήνουν τη φωνή τους να ακουστεί πραγματικά. Κυρίως, χαρακτηρίζεται από έναν αδιαπέραστο «τοίχο», που ξανά και ξανά ορθώνεται μπροστά τους και διαρκώς τους αναχαιτίζει: Μια ακόμα πτυχή του “I Can’t Breathe”.

9 AFROGREEKS DISCUSS: WHAT DOES “I CAN’T BREATHE” MEAN IN GREECE?

Everyday life, thoughts and experiences of the Afrogreeks in a conversation that you should not miss.

Onassis Stegi invited two Afrogreeks – Jackie Abhulimen and Eirini Niamouaia, Ontoul, both of whom have a background in legal representation and activism – to curate and chair a discussion of their own, with the participation of a group of young people living in Athens, about what “anti-Blackness” means in Greece. About how racism has touched their lives. The daily experiences of people of African descent around the world – the “Black Experience” – brim with projections and social stereotypes that often mean their voices cannot truly be heard. This manifests, in the main, as a kind of insurmountable “wall” that rises over and again before them, constantly blocking their path forward: yet another dimension of “I Can’t Breathe”.
