The Hungarian government has introduced a new residency permit for digital nomads called the White Card, which allows internationals to live in Hungary while working for a company outside this country. And soon after it introduced its residency permit for digital nomads, Hungary started to attract many internationals interested in working remotely for a company outside the country while temporarily living in Hungary. The new residence permit is planned for a maximum period of one year, but it can be extended for an additional year too. According to experts the Internet speed is essential, and in Hungary’s capital, it is excellent as well as cheap, WI-Fi is free in hotels and restaurants, while citizens abroad have to pay for WI-FI in these places.
Internationals who meet the requirements could benefit from the White Card. They should
• Hold a work contract in other countries
• Have a share in a company with profit in a country other than Hungary
• Persons interested to benefit from the White Card do not pursue gainful activity while remaining in Hungary and do not hold a share of any of the companies in Hungary.
