Barbados is offering a digital nomad visa – how exciting!
This program has been around since the summer of 2020, and many are interested!
Barbados never had a big digital nomad presence, but they decided to change this and to attract a new group of people to the country. If you’re interested in moving to this paradise island you’re at the right place. We’ll be covering everything you need to know about digital nomad visas in Barbados, requirements, and costs, as well as the tax situation in the country.
We’ve already talked about countries that offer this type of visa: Costa Rica, Malta, Estonia, Croatia, etc, and from what we can see more and more countries will be open to introducing options for remote workers.
In order to apply for a digital nomad visa in Barbados, you need to commit to making at least $50 000 in a year, which is quite steep for this type of visa. However, they don’t ask for proof.
Barbados is one of the most affluent Caribbean islands, and for a long time, it was considered to be a tax haven for Canadians. It’s important to note that Barbados is not a cheap place to live!
In order to obtain a digital nomad visa in Barbados, you’ll need to pay $2000 as a single person, or $3000 for a family. You don’t need to pay when you apply, but once you’re approved.
The process is quite fast and straightforward. When you arrive in Barbados you need to prove that you have insurance for the year that you’ll be in the country. In order to activate the visa, you’ll need to leave the country and reenter.
What about taxes? Similar to other digital nomad programs, you will not be taxed on any income that is not local, so generally, you can expect to not pay any tax in Barbados.
