The Good News: State Department is planning to hire, more consular and foreign service officers in the 2022 fiscal year.
The Not so Good News: Many posts will not see any additional staff until the second half of fiscal year 2022 or fiscal year 2023. so what other options are in place to address this backlogs?. There are other options like Virtual Interviews, Trusted Traveler Model, Going Paperless, etc.

State Department has announced the recent US Visa backlog reduction status. Visa Wait time at US consulates (approximately)

6 months wait or longer for some nonimmigrant visas.
19 months to process just the existing backlog for immigrant visa.
