Countries around the world are reintroducing lockdowns and again discouraging “non-essential” travel following the emergence of the Omicron variant. The World Health Organization says the Omicron variant is spreading at a “phenomenal pace”. Head of Saint Lucia’s COVID-19 Management Center Cletus Springer concedes the local healthcare system is still too vulnerable. Springer is however, optimistic vaccination paired with border entry protocols will reduce the chances of another post-winter COVID-19 outbreak.
