Senate Democrats are urging the Biden administration to let at least 2 million undocumented immigrants extend their stays in the U.S. and avoid deportation to their home countries burdened with natural disasters and crises. They are requesting the president grant Temporary Protected Status to Guatemalans, and to expand eligibility for Hondurans, Nicaraguans, and Salvadorans. More than 300,000 immigrants from those countries already have TPS. Opponents say the designation will only encourage more illegal entry
