I have lived in the US my whole life, specifically Colorado.
Colorado is a great place to live, when it’s not on fire. The metro areas have become more and more costly over the years, making it harder to accumulate any type of savings.
While I love the Centennial State, it’s time for a change.
As you’ve probably noticed, the political situation in the United States has gotten quite ugly.
Tensions have been growing over the past few decades, but 2020 has seen a sharp increase in political violence.
These spontaneous acts of political violence raise concerns about the stability of the US. After all, almost every revolution in history has been proceeding with unplanned acts of destruction.
I have friends and family on all sides of the political divide, and many of them are concerned about what may happen after the election – regardless of who wins.
Hopefully, it will be a peaceful November but now seems as good of a time as any to move abroad.
I chose to move to the Dominican Republic for a few reasons. During my exodus planning, there were only a few dozen countries allowing Americans in due to the virus.
The DR was one of them. Add to this that I can live within walking distance to the beach at a very affordable rate.
With the pandemic, it is now easier to live anywhere in the world that has internet and earn a reliable income.
I lucked out and got accepted into a few writing mills. Now I can get paid to write articles, copy, and reviews anywhere in the world. It’s not a lot of money, but enough to get by in the Dominican Republic and still have enough time to work on other projects and have fun.
Specifically, I’ll be living in a town on the Northern coast called Sosua. Sosua is a small beach town full of ex-pats from all over the world- mainly Americans, Canadians, Germans, and Russians.
There many American retirees who have relocated here living on just their social security benefits – about $1,200 USD a month.
The ex-pat population hasn’t fully gentrified the area; there are many Dominican natives and Haitians who call Sosua home. The town is a nice melting pot of international cultures.
Sosua has a robust vlogging culture. You can browse many youtube videos of ex-pats who have relocated to this great beach town.
The vloggers are happy to share their tips and tricks about living in Sosua, and it’s easy to take their word for it since they’ve been filming on location for years.
I’ve reached out to a few of them, and they all seem very kind and friendly.
Those are all the main reasons I’ve decided to move from Colorado to Sosua. Where have you considered moving abroad? Let me know in the comments and thank you for watching.
