2 All matters concerning Greek citizenship, including the right to claim this status based on ancestry, are governed by the Greek Nationality Code.

3 Individuals who qualify for citizenship need to register with the Municipal Records of the Hellenic Republic.

4 One manner in which an individual can acquire Greek citizenship by descent is when one or both parents are Greek citizens.

5 The application for Greek citizenship by descent is accepted if one or both parents are Greek citizens even if the said pared has not exercised his/her right to citizenship.

6 Citizenship rights can also be awarded to children born of foreign national parents who, at the time of the child’s birth, were fully naturalized Greek citizens.

7 Other special situations can apply for Greek citizenship by descent in case of wedlock children and children of age. Additional documents are required in these cases.

8 Marrying a Greek national does not grant automatic citizenship, however, foreign nationals who are married to a Greek citizen are able to apply for permanent residence and follow the naturalization route.
