The University of Medicine and Health Sciences is a technology-based campus with educators who are leaders in their fields. Who choose to teach this excellence thrives amid the beauty of
the exotic Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Well I think that for any parent the idea of their child leaving home and leaving the country is something of concern. What I would say is that here on the Island the people are actually very warm. They’re very friendly and very respectful. Oh I love living in Saint Kitts. I didn’t know much about the Island until I came here, and now that I am here, I realized that it’s a very conducive environment for studying. The weather is a lot nicer than the cold in Michigan so during the winter I can’t complain, but no it’s it’s really beautiful and I think we’re blessed to be on an Island like this and to be able to go to school. The views are second to none so and whenever you feel a little stressed you come out look at the water, take a deep breath and you realize that it’s a good experience. You’re in a tropical island at the end of the day and you’re studying and you’re chasing a dream while living the dream when you’re not hitting the books. You can hit the school gym. I like to workout a lot. I always go to the gym. Here it has everything you pretty much need and that’s just where I like to go to get away yeah so today’s club they were all the different organizations come out and introduce the students the clubs. At UMHS the schools dynamic Student Government organizes activities year-round from athletic events like the student-faculty math olympics, to field trips, to historic island locations like the old fortress high on top of Brimstone Hill. If you’re a history buff it’s it’s a great place to go all across the Island. There are many familiar sites and lots of places to shop and eat. Your connection to life on St. Kitts begins long before your arrival. UMHS has a support system in place to ease the transition, so when a student gets accepted to the school they will of course get in touch with myself, I am the housing director. We have studios. We have one bedrooms, and also for those students that want to share or have families, we have two and three bedroom apartments and we actually have a database of say 700 different landlords. So you know we have a large variety of properties for students. We get a link to the housing database and from there I looked at housing based on my budget and there were pictures and I chose the one that best fit me. My number one concern was security and I found this place that had cameras and had security, and I loved it, and when I got here it was actually much better than the picture. This is a typical apartment this one here is fully furnished it’s a one-bedroom. Our requirements are that they have to have burglar bars on all the windows. Which they do. Have the normal appliances that you would have in your own home, so this fridge, there’s microwave there, stove, there’s pots and pans. You know plates, everything. Our school is unique and it’s just you know a great thing for the students as soon as they come out custom we are there waited for them. We know their names. They feel at ease already. I personally really enjoyed my time down on the island. It was a great experience nowhere else can you go to medical school, wake up with sunshine every single day definitely motivates you a lot more.
