U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has updated its Policy Manual, after it entered into a legal settlement this week in litigation for Shergill versus Mayorkas. The settlement makes significant changes to the work authorization process for the spouses of high-skilled workers in the United States.
Under the settlement and the subsequent U.S.C.I.S guidance, E visa and L visa holder spouses will not have to apply for an Employment Authorization Document, otherwise called as E.A.D, to work in the United States. In addition, E visa, L visa , H1b visa holder spouses, holding E2, L.2, and H4 visas will be given automatic 180-day E.A.D. extensions if they meet certain conditions.

After passing the infrastructure bill on Friday, November 5 and delaying the budget reconciliation bill vote until sometime before Thanksgiving, the House is now in recess until November 15. lawmakers demanded the budget bill delay, as they wait for a CBO score in Immigration and other provisions in the bill. They have committed to voting on the legislation no later than the week of November 15th. But as per experts, Biden’s Build Back Better plan faces tough road ahead.
