Henley Passport Index 2020 recently released the rankings of the world’s most powerful passports in which Japan tops the Index and India secured 84th rank. The list included passports of 199 countries and 227 tourist places.

What doest these scores means ?
Eg – In Henley passport index 2020 India secured 84th rank with 58 scores. This 58 scores/points means the Indian passport holder can travel 58 countries without any visa(visa free access) or visa on arrival.

The UAE has been the index’s biggest success story of the past decade, from 65th position in 2010 to 18th in 2020 with a visa-free or visa-on-arrival score of 171.

A Japanese passport holder can access 165 ( 191 scores of Japan – 26 scores of Afghanistan = 165 ) more destinations than a holder of the world’s weakest passport, that of Afghanistan, which offers visa-free/visa-on-arrival access to just 26 destinations.

Other countries which share 84th position and 58 scores with India are Mauritania & Tajikistan. Indian passport was at 71st position in the inaugural year(2006) of the index. In 2019, the Indian passport’s ranking was 82 with visa-free travel or visa on arrival to 59 countries.
