
Rumba artist Pedrito Martinez hails from his native Cuba but his music reflects the passion of his musical roots fusing it with the contemporary sounds of world and American influences. His debut self-titled Motema Records release, “The Pedrito Martinez Group”, is a critically-acclaimed record produced by legendary percussionist Steve Gadd. The disc features special guests Matt Dillon, Wynton Marsails, and John Scofield.
Pedrito was the winner of the first Thelonious Monk Competition and has gone on to tour and record with the likes of Sting,Eddie Palmieri, Paul Simon, Joe Lovano, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Cassandra Wilson.
This year he’s been a riding high musically in that he opened this year’s 2014-2015 Season at Jazz at Lincoln Center featuring his musical suite “Ochas” performed with the JALC orchestra and legendary Cuban born pianist Chucho Valdes.
Pedrito is now performing his weekly residency twice a week at Subrosa, a brand new club run by the Blue Note Entertainment Group which features some of the best international Latin and world performers in the meat packing district in New York City.
