According to the Passport Index, the Canadian passport is among the most powerful in the entire world.

The real-time global passport ranking website considers a passport the most powerful when it allows the holder to travel the maximum number of countries without a visa.

By this standard, Canadian passports are ranking in the fifth group of countries. Others include France, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Czech Republic.

Canadian passport holders can travel to 97 countries visa-free, while another 45 only requires a visa upon arrival.

The Canadian passports are given a higher ranking by the London-based global firm Henley & Partners who provide citizenship and residency services.

In a list that represents 116 countries with the most powerful visas, they placed Canada into its eighth of 26 groups. In the last quarter of this year, Canada held a visa-free score of 184.
