Sandals Halcyon Beach, Saint Lucia – an impression

Sandals Halcyon Beach is an all-inclusive resort on the beautiful island of Saint Lucia. I spent two weeks here at the end of August, early September 2021.

Sandals advertises mainly to Americans and Brits, and the vast majority of Sandals Halcyon Beach guests do come from the US and the UK. Next to this, most guests are either honeymooners or senior citizens.

Sandals Halcyon Beach is promoted as a 5-star resort, but if you have experienced 5-star hotels around the world, please be warned that Sandals Halcyon Beach cannot be compared to a 5-star hotel such as the St Regis in New York City or the Ritz in London. The guest profile, as well as service level, is very different.

At the time of filming, Sandals Halcyon Beach had mask mandates in busy areas such as in the reception area and entering and exiting restaurants, as well as on organized transportation.

If you visit from the US, make sure you bring adapters as the power plugs are UK style, although there are a few US plugs embedded in the desk next to the bed.

This video is an impression of the resort as I experienced it, and my pros and cons of Sandals Halcyon Beach resort are:

PROs
– Once checked in, free drinks and food
– Easy access to the beach and free water sports (paddle boards, water skiing, sailing, etc.)
– Beautiful gardens and calming wild life noises at night
– Shielded from COVID-19 restrictions/curfews on the island
– Many offsite tours and activities to keep yourself busy
– Very good in-room A/C
– Free onsite COVID-19 testing for return travel
– Friendly staff and locals

CONs
– Every day, you’ll encounter guests who can’t handle free alcohol and get loud and inconsiderate
– Selling and upselling everywhere, on the resort as well as on the publicly accessible beach
– Often out of stock on drinks (e.g. Diet Coke)
– Slow service (seems to be a low on staff issue)
– Room service (forgot to clean the room, stock the fridge, replace coffee)
– Kimonos restaurant ignored a food allergy and created a very unsafe situation
– Red flag up often, which means no activities on the water
– It’s never quiet; busy road next to the honeymoon area hideout (especially the 700s and 800s rooms), music at all restaurants, drunk and/or inconsiderate guests
– Not smoke free; people smoking all over the resort

Once again, these are my observations and experiences, and your experience may differ.
