SGU Medical Student Research Institute: Why Do Research?

Fourth-year medical students return to Grenada to present their research their MS1 & MS2 colleagues, and discuss their motivations for undertaking research at SGU. They talk about how research sets you apart from other MD candidates.

As a medical student, it helps to build a medical student’s resume for residency match and fellowship positions. Research during your MD program is also that University Programs and Hospitals will use to evaluate a candidate during the match and following candidate process.

About SGU’s Medical School Research Institute (MSRI) Senior Medical Student Awards: Students who are in their graduating year submit an abstract of their research done in medical school, accompanied by any published abstracts, papers, posters or manuscripts in preparation. A faculty panel reviews the submissions and chooses the five best abstracts based on originality, scientific merit and level of involvement by the student. Each award recipient receives an all-expense paid trip to Grenada to present and discuss their research with faculty and students.
