Hungary decides to cancel Immigrant Investor Bond residency and Andrew is here to talk about what this means, and what you can learn from it.
For some people out there, this is not the best news, since by suspending the residency program, Hungary is removing one straightforward path to the second residency in the EU for investors.
In the last years, Hungary has become quite xenophobic, due to thousands of refugees flocking to go through the country.
Immigrant Investor Bond residency program was simple – you invest 300,000 Euros into government’s bonds, you get no interest, and after 8 years, you get your money back.
While you’re waiting for your money, you have the right to travel and work anywhere in the European Union, which is what made Hungary an entrance point for many Asian investors.
Now, Hungary has closed the door to this program, as their economy is doing better and they don’t want that many foreign investors running around.
