Alright so it seems that there are a lot of people who have already completed their residency or may have also specialized in any given field of Medicine and want to gain some United States experience or an Advanced qualification in the US. I have known people who did take this route. One actually was in Radiology. The other in Physical Medicine and Rehab. And another in anaesthesia. It appears to my knowledge if you want to have any experience in the US you need to be ecfmg certified. That means you will need to go through the United States medical licensing examinations, the USMLE. But this will likely not be as straightforward as applying for the match such as for residency or even for a fellowship. You will have to research individual specialty programs and you can find that information on the ERAS website and look for participating programs and Specialties for Fellowship. Have to contact them directly one by one. Have your CV ready and updated. Call them and email them directly on the contact information provided on the ERAS website. Give them detailed information on your qualifications and your eagerness to be part of this Fellowship and all the skills which you can bring to the program. So basically you have to market yourself. You have to show your skills. If you have extensive research experience then that is going to be a plus and your research skills might be something that they are looking for. You have to try to get them to want to take you. And you will have to try to make it as easy for them as possible. There may be Visa issues involved. They may be some additional costs involved. They would also be extensive paperwork involved. But as you see this would be going through a process which is not normal but if you can talk to enough people and encourage them and show them that yes you are the person that they want then they may be willing to take that extra effort and get you in there. If this is something you really want to do, it will take some doing. But that’s my take based on my information. But if anybody has any other ideas and experiences let me know in the comments below. Over and out.
