Oxfam in Vanuatu scales blockchain solution to revolutionise humanitarian aid

Do you remember Oxfam’s Unblocked Cash pilot from 2019? Well, we are forging ahead with a scaled-up version in response to Tropical Cyclone Harold and the COVID-19 pandemic in Vanuatu.

Unblocked Cash is a blockchain-based Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) solution that enables much faster, less expensive, and more transparent financial aid for relief efforts. It’s being scaled across the world, starting in the Pacific nation of Vanuatu.

A year after the groundbreaking pilot, Oxfam in Vanuatu, together with 17 local and international partners, is scaling its blockchain-based UnBlocked Cash project to distribute cash and voucher assistance to over 35,000 beneficiaries affected by the Category 5 Cyclone Harold and COVID-19.

This project would not be possible without support from the Governments of New Zealand and Australia.
