Three hundred participants at this year’s Global Citizen Forum in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro, heard from panelists exploring the vital role of citizenship, leadership, global security challenges, and philanthropy, as well as practicing that philanthropy by raising over US$400,000 to help rebuild the Caribbean island of Barbuda, which was devastated last month by Hurricane Irma.
Speakers included Dusko Markovic, prime minister of Montenegro; Gaston Browne, prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda; Cherie Blair; Jeannette Kagame, First Lady of Rwanda; musical superstars Akon and Wyclef Jean, Nouriel Roubini and Jose Manuel Barroso, the former president of the European Union, among others.
On behalf of Airways Scenic and Charter official airshuttle of the event, Mr. Romy Hawatt, CEO of Riana Group and Founding member of Global Sustainability Network hosted Robert De Niro on his Riana Super Yacht and discuss global citizenship program.
“I strongly believe in the future of Montenegro and am constantly looking at ways to help grow the country’s business and investment appeal in both socially and environmentally sustainable ways. As Montenegro broadens and differentiates its slate of offerings and opportunities, so to does it grow its spectrum of influence and appeal on the European and broader international stage.
By adapting a model not dissimilar to the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and perhaps a hybrid of the Luxembourg and Monaco models, my belief is that Montenegro could quite reasonably and realistically reinvent itself into a new type of European Financial and Investment hub.
Add to this a quality, balanced economic citizenship program and you have a world beating formula right in the center of Europe”
