Like its neighbors in the Pacific, Vanuatu has been hit hard by the impact of COVID-19.
So, an Asian Development Bank grant of $16.9 million will help to strengthen the country’s health systems while also alleviating economic and social pressures.
The grant will train frontline medical workers in contact tracing and increase public awareness of COVID-19.
It will also assist the government to implement its stimulus program, including employment stabilization payments for businesses affected by the pandemic, grants for women-owned micro, small, and medium-sized businesses, and tuition relief for primary and secondary school students, as well as support for the agricultural sector in the form of price subsidies and transportation assistance.
