We talked a lot at Nomad Capitalist about the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion and how US citizens can take advantage of it in order to reduce their high taxes by spending most of their time outside the United States.
But what about Green Card holders? Are they eligible as well?
From a tax point of view, there should be no difference, since Green Card holder is also considered a US person.
Unfortunately, there is a BUT – Green Card holders are somewhere in the middle and the Government expects them to spend most of their time in the US in order to become naturalized.
So, either renounce your Green Card or carry on with the naturalization process, unless you want to face immigration issues.
